The script of the Mesha Stele (c. 840 BCE) represents a classic 9th-century BCE West Semitic linear monumental hand, reflecting the transitional phase during Iron Age IIA–IIB when the unified Phoenician linear alphabet began diverging into distinct national scripts (Paleo-Hebrew, Moabite, Ammonite, and Old Aramaic).
