Thoughts On The Telepathy Tapes

I was recently introduced to the Telepathy Tapes from this Rich Roll podcast, and I was immediately intrigued by Ky Dickens’ passionate beliefs in the supernatural. She’s not afraid to say that she has a high level of confidence in the existence of an afterlife. I’m fascinated by the way her experiences and the stories she’s heard have influenced her understanding of the supernatural so much. To go from doubter to believer in the afterlife is not a small feat.

Since I also have no problem saying that I have a high level of confidence in the existence of an afterlife as well as supernatural phenomena, I found it refreshing to hear the supernatural being explored. As I listened to more of the podcast, I found myself growing in curiosity of what it could mean if researchers can predictably observe supernatural phenomena. Is that possible? Could it really be studied well enough to draw conclusive evidence about the existence of telepathic abilities?

As interesting as this possibility could be, it also stirred other curiosity in me. If we consider this possibility, that telepathic abilities can be studied reliably enough to conclude as a matter of certainty that telepathy is “real”, do we really have proof that we’re seeing what we think we’re seeing? That these peoplehave some kind of unique gift that others do not?

Probably the most important questions that occurred to me are the following: How would you spot the difference between a person having telepathic abilities and that person having information facilitated to them by a supernatural intelligence? In other words: how would you know that these people have some kind of unique ability and that it’s not a demon whispering in their ear to put on a show?

I’m not saying that I know the answer or that the answer can be known, but these are questions worth pondering if you ask me.

While it’s fascinating to consider the possibility of supernatural perception, it’s also worth uncovering all potential explanations for the phenomenon if we want to get to the bottom of it. If there is intelligence “out there”, how can we be sure that telepathic experiences are nothing more and nothing less than encounters with this intelligence?
